Transliteration
ya devi sarva-bhuteshu shakti-rupena samsthita namas-tasyai namas-tasyai namas-tasyai namo namah
Meaning (English)
To that Goddess who abides in all beings as Power — salutations to Her, salutations to Her, salutations to Her, salutations again and again. From Chapter 5 of the Devi Mahatmyam (also called Durga Saptashati or Chandi Path), this is one verse from a series of 18 invocations praising the Devi as the dweller in all beings as consciousness, intelligence, sleep, hunger, shadow, shakti, thirst, forgiveness, modesty, peace, faith, beauty, fortune, livelihood, memory, compassion, contentment, and mother.
Benefits (Phal)
Recited during all nine days of Navratri and on every Ashtami and Navami. Daily chanting awakens the indwelling shakti, dissolves enemy energies, grants protection in litigation and adversity, and reveals the Divine Feminine as the substratum of all phenomena. The 18-verse complete recitation forms the bija of Devi sadhana for serious practitioners.
When to Chant
All nine days of Navratri (Chaitra + Sharad), every Ashtami of Krishna Paksha (Kalashtami), Tuesdays and Fridays for Devi sadhana, and during any crisis requiring divine feminine intervention.
How to Chant
Sit facing north or east before Devi image. Light a red ghee lamp. Chant minimum 3 verses (consciousness, peace, shakti). Conclude with the triple namaskaram namo namah. Advanced practitioners chant all 18 forms during Navratri.
