Shree Siddhivinayak Temple at Prabhadevi, Mumbai, is one of the richest and most visited Ganesha temples in India. The original temple was built on 19 November 1801 by Laxman Vithu and Deubai Patil, a childless wife who wished that no other woman should remain childless. The idol of Ganesha was discovered buried in a nearby lake. The deity is "Siddhivinayak" — the Ganesha who grants wishes (Siddhi) — and unique for having the trunk curled to the right side (Dakshin-abhimukhi), which makes prayers especially potent but also demanding strict observance of ritual. The present five-story structure with gold-plated domes was rebuilt in 1990. It is a premier destination for Bollywood stars, politicians and businessmen — often receiving daily donations of ₹1 crore.
Mumbai's most beloved Ganesha. Dakshin-mukhi Ganesha (right-trunk) is considered extremely powerful for wish fulfillment. Every major Bollywood film starts with a Siddhivinayak visit.
Black stone idol, approximately 2.5 ft tall, with the trunk curved to the right. Four hands hold lotus, axe, modak, and rosary. The inner sanctum is plated with gold.
