Significance

Holiest Sikh shrine; spiritually open to all faiths. Sarovar (sacred pool) said to grant healing. Langar (community kitchen) is the world's largest free meal service.

Legend

Guru Arjan Dev compiled and installed the Adi Granth here in 1604. Maharaja Ranjit Singh covered the upper floors with 750 kg of gold leaf.
