Significance

Bhuloka Vaikunta (Vaikunta on Earth). Composed Narayaneeyam by Melpathur Narayana Bhattathiri here in 1586 — recited globally as Vishnu stuti.

Legend

After Dwarka submerged into the sea, Lord Krishna instructed Uddhava to retrieve his worship deity. Brihaspati (Guru) and Vayu (Wind) installed it here — hence Guru-Vayu-Ur (Guruvayur).
