Belur Math

Headquarters of the Ramakrishna Math and Mission on the banks of the Hooghly, blending temple architectures of the world.

2 days West Bengal from ₹7,500/person

About this yatra

Belur Math, founded by Swami Vivekananda in 1898, stands on the western bank of the Hooghly river just north of Kolkata and serves as the global headquarters of the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission. The principal shrine, dedicated to Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, is an architectural meditation in stone: its facade evokes a Hindu temple, its central dome recalls a Christian cathedral, its windows borrow from Buddhist viharas, and its plan suggests an Islamic mosque, embodying Vivekanandas vision of universal religion. The sprawling 40-acre campus also houses the samadhi shrines of Sri Sarada Devi, Swami Vivekananda and Swami Brahmananda, a museum chronicling Ramakrishnas life and the monastic orders worldwide service work, and tranquil riverside ghats where pilgrims meditate at dawn. Aarti at sunrise and the evening vesper service draw devotees from across Bengal and the Indian diaspora, while Durga Puja and Kumari Puja here are celebrated with strict Vedic ritual rather than community pandal pageantry. Our package includes airport pickup at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International, two nights of accommodation in a heritage Kolkata hotel, a guided morning darshan at the main shrine, lunch prasadam at the monastery refectory, a curated visit to the museum and Vivekanandas room, evening aarti at the riverside ghats, and a half-day excursion across the river to Dakshineswar Kali Temple where Ramakrishna lived and worshipped.
