Guruvayur Sri Krishna Temple Yatra

Bhuloka Vaikuntha of the south — a three day pilgrimage to the celebrated Krishna shrine of Kerala and its surrounding temples.

3 days Kerala from ₹10,500/person

About this yatra

Guruvayur Sri Krishna Temple in Thrissur district of Kerala is one of the most revered Vaishnava shrines of south India and is popularly called Bhuloka Vaikuntha, the heaven on earth. The presiding deity is Lord Krishna in the form of Guruvayurappan, a magnificent four armed murti carved from a rare stone called Patala Anjana, worshipped exactly as the boy Krishna who was once installed in Dwarka by Lord Vishnu himself and later, according to legend, brought to Kerala by Guru Brihaspati and Vayu Deva, giving the shrine its name. This three day yatra is designed for devotees who wish to experience the temple in its full rhythm of daily seva, including the dawn nirmalya darshan when the previous day flower garlands are still on the deity, the seeveli procession when Guruvayurappan is carried around the inner sanctum on a temple elephant, and the udayasthamana puja sponsored by devotees seeking moksha. Day one covers arrival and the legendary 5 AM nirmalya darshan followed by abhishekam, palabhishekam, and the morning ashta dravya puja with sandalwood, milk, ghee, honey, banana and other offerings; the evening features the ethereal deeparadhana where the entire inner sanctum is lit only by oil lamps and the chenda melam temple drumming sets the air vibrating with devotion. Day two visits the historic Mammiyoor Mahadeva temple just outside Guruvayur which traditional belief considers mandatory to visit on the same day as Guruvayur, the Punnathur Kotta elephant sanctuary where the temple sacred elephants are housed, and the Krishna Premi Bhajan satsang at the temple Chuttambalam. Day three is reserved for the famous tulabharam ceremony where devotees offer their weight in commodities like sugar, bananas, or coconuts as a vow of gratitude, followed by a visit to the nearby Thiruvenkitam Sri Venkateswara temple and the Chowwara Sri Sankaranarayana temple. The package includes air conditioned pickup from Cochin or Calicut airport, three nights of accommodation in a temple recommended guest house, all vegetarian Kerala satvic meals served on banana leaves, traditional Kerala temple dress code white mundu for men and saree or set mundu for women, English Malayalam speaking guide, all temple sponsorships coordinated, and assistance with the tulabharam offering.
