About this yatra

Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple at Srirangam, set on a 600-acre island in the Cauvery river near Tiruchirappalli, is the largest functioning Hindu temple complex in the world and the foremost of the 108 Divya Desams sacred to Lord Vishnu in the Sri Vaishnava tradition. The sanctum enshrines Lord Ranganatha, a colossal reclining Vishnu image stretching across the serpent Adisesha in cosmic yoga nidra, the same form revered by the twelve Alvar saints whose Tamil Pasurams form the Divya Prabandham. The temple is encircled by seven concentric rectangular prakaram walls and twenty-one massive gopuram towers, the southernmost Rajagopuram soaring to 73 metres being the tallest temple gateway in Asia. Within these walls lie a thousand-pillared mandapam of breathtaking Chola and Vijayanagara craftsmanship, the Sesharaya Mandapam with its rearing horse pillars, the Garuda Mandapam, and dozens of sub-shrines to Krishna, Narasimha, Andal, Ramanujacharya and the Alvar saints. The 21-day Vaikuntha Ekadashi festival in December-January draws over a million devotees to witness the deity passing through the Paramapada Vasal, the gateway to Vaikuntha, opened only once a year. Our package includes pickup at Tiruchirappalli airport, three nights of accommodation in a heritage hotel, a guided architectural walking tour through all seven prakarams with a Sri Vaishnava acharya, VIP darshan of the Ranganatha sanctum, abhishekam, prasadam puliyodarai and sweet pongal, and excursions to the nearby Jambukeshwarar temple at Tiruvanaikaval (one of the Pancha Bhuta Sthalams representing water) and the rock fortress temple of Tiruchirappalli.
