Story / Origin
Dhata is the "placer" — he allocates karmic fruits to each soul at the right moment. Often paired with Vidhata (his brother and counterpart) — Vidhata writes the karma, Dhata delivers the result. In Brihadaranyaka Upanishad, Dhata is invoked at every yajna as the witness who confirms the fruit-bearing.
