Guru Stotram (Guru Brahma)गुरु स्तोत्रम्
Devoted to Guru (Sat-guru as Trimurti)
Source: Skanda Purana, Guru Gita — verse 17 widely chanted
Transliteration
Gurur Brahma Gurur Vishnuh Gurur Devo Maheshvarah | Guruh Sakshat Param Brahma Tasmai Shree Gurave Namah
Meaning (English)
Guru is Brahma (creator), Guru is Vishnu (preserver), Guru is Maheshvara (destroyer/transformer). Guru is verily the supreme Brahman itself. To that respected Guru, I bow. The four lines establish the Guru as the embodiment of all three cosmic functions and ultimately as the absolute reality.
Benefits (Phal)
Establishes proper bhava (attitude) toward guru — primary prerequisite for spiritual progress. Removes obstacles in sadhana path, opens grace-flow from teacher, deepens shishyatva (disciple-readiness). Recited before any teaching, scripture study, or spiritual practice as offering.
When to Chant
Before every spiritual practice; Guru Purnima; daily morning sandhya; before scripture study; before meeting one's teacher; on guru's birthday.
How to Chant
Stand or sit. Anjali mudra at forehead, heart, then ground (full pranam-flow). Visualize lineage of teachers from current back to Adi Guru Dakshinamurti. Then prostrate fully (sashtanga namaskar) if possible.
