Transliteration
om namo bhagavate vasudevaya vishnur jishnur mahavishnuh prabhavishnus tu vaishnavah krishno vaikuntha-nathash cha mukundah purushottamah govindo madhavo ramo hrishikesho janardanah narayano harih shambhur damodara iti prabhuh achyutah keshavo vishnur harih satyo janardanah hamso narayano lilah shantah shashvata eva cha iti shri-vishnoh shata-nama-stotram sampurnam
Meaning (English)
This stotram garlands the Supreme Vishnu with one hundred sacred names, each name a doorway into one of his infinite aspects. Vishnu is praised as the all-pervading sustainer (Jishnu), the radiant Mukunda who grants liberation, Purushottama the supreme person, Govinda the protector of cows and senses, Madhava the consort of Lakshmi, and Achyuta the unfallen. The shorter hundred-name form, distilled from Vishnu Sahasranama traditions, allows daily devotees to invoke the entirety of his divine personality within a few brisk minutes of focused chanting.
Benefits (Phal)
The hymn is celebrated for granting longevity, freedom from disease, dissolution of accumulated sin, and steady progress on the path of bhakti and jnana. Chanted with faith it harmonises family life, attracts prosperity rooted in dharma, and offers refuge from untimely fears. Many devotees use it before sleep to clear the day of mental impressions and dream peacefully under Narayana protection.
When to Chant
Recite at brahma muhurta, on Ekadashi, dwadashi, Saturdays, Vaikuntha Ekadashi, and during Chaturmasya. Suitable as a daily nitya paath when Vishnu Sahasranama feels too long.
How to Chant
Bathe, wear clean cloth, sit before a salagrama or Vishnu image, offer tulsi leaves and a lamp. Begin with om namo bhagavate vasudevaya, then chant the stotram in clear measured tone. Conclude with three pradakshina and surrender of merit at the lotus feet of Hari.
