Goddess Meenakshi (literally "fish-eyed") is the principal deity at Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple. Unique in Hindu tradition where the goddess is worshipped before her consort Sundareshwar. Born from a king's yajna as a three-breasted warrior princess, the third breast disappeared upon meeting Shiva — the divine wedding (Thirukalyanam) is re-enacted every evening at the temple.
