Stambhana — paralysis of motion, speech, intention. Stops enemies and ego-pulse alike.

Origin story

When the universe faced annihilation by a destructive storm, the gods invoked the goddess. She arose from a golden lotus in the Haridra-sarovar (turmeric lake), with crane-face and golden body. She seized the demon's tongue and paralyzed his speech — halting destruction. Eighth Mahavidya, ultimate stambhana shakti.

Iconography

Two-armed, brilliant yellow body, seated on a golden throne in the midst of a lake of nectar. Right hand grips an enemy's tongue, left hand strikes him with a mace. Crane-face (bagala). Yellow sari, yellow lotus. Three eyes, smiling.
