Origin & story
Bhavishyottara Purana.
Sage Medhavi was lured by the apsara Manjughosha and broke his tapas. After 57 years she returned to celestial realm, and he realised his fall. Out of remorse he observed Papamochani Ekadashi — all sins were destroyed. "Papa-mochani" = "destroyer of sins".
