Trimbakeshwar is at the source of the Godavari river, in the Brahmagiri hills, about 28 km from Nashik. It is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, uniquely featuring three lingams (tri-mukhi) representing Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva — making it the only "Tridev Jyotirlinga." The current temple was built by Peshwa Balaji Baji Rao (Nanasaheb Peshwa) between 1755 and 1786, replacing an older shrine. It is carved in black basalt in the Hemadpanti style. Trimbakeshwar is famous for Narayan Nagbali, Kaal Sarp, Tripindi and Pitru Dosha Nivaran pujas.
Only Jyotirlinga with the three supreme deities in one lingam. The source of the Godavari (Gautami Ganga) makes it one of the holiest pilgrimage sites for the entire Deccan.
The three thumb-sized lingams representing Brahma (the creator), Vishnu (the preserver) and Shiva (the destroyer) are set in a shallow depression filled with flowing Godavari water.
