Significance

Lord Shiva is said to have narrated the secret of immortality (Amar Katha) to Parvati here — making it the cave of the immortals.

Legend

Two pigeons (Amar pakshi) overheard the immortality discourse — said to still be visible to fortunate yatris.

How to reach

Two routes: (1) Pahalgam–Chandanwari–Sheshnag–Panchtarni–Cave (48 km, 5 days). (2) Baltal direct (14 km, 1–2 days, steeper). Helicopters available Pahalgam–Panjtarni and Neelgrath–Panjtarni.

Nearest airport: Srinagar (90 km from Pahalgam, 100 km from Baltal)
Nearest railway: Jammu Tawi (300 km) then road; Udhampur for Baltal
