Fifth and final of Panch Kedar — Shiva's matted hair (jata) appeared here. Only Panch Kedar open year-round (low altitude + cave protection).
Legend
Final form-emergence in the buffalo legend — Shiva's jata emerged at Kalpeshwar, completing the five sites. Sage Durvasa is said to have meditated under a Kalpavriksha here.
How to reach
Helang motorable end (270 km from Rishikesh, 12 km from Joshimath) → 2 km trek/jeep + 300m walk to cave temple. Easiest of Panch Kedar.
Where to stay
Joshimath (12 km) main hub; basic guesthouses at Urgam village; ashrams. Easy access — usually combined with Badrinath trip.
