Significance

Birthplace of Lord Krishna per Bhagavata Purana — Devaki gave birth in Kamsa's prison on Bhadrapada Krishna Ashtami midnight.

Legend

Kamsa imprisoned his sister Devaki on prophecy that her 8th son would slay him. Krishna born midnight, secretly transported across the Yamuna to Gokul by Vasudeva.
