Significance

Second of the Panch Prayag — Alaknanda + Nandakini rivers merge. Birthplace of King Nanda (foster father of Krishna) per Garhwali tradition.

Legend

King Nanda performed yajna here praying for a child — Vishnu blessed him and was later born as Krishna in his household. Sati (Nanda Devi) emerged from this sangam.

On NH-7, 195 km from Rishikesh, 20 km from Karnaprayag toward Badrinath. All Badrinath/Joshimath buses halt briefly.
