First of the Panch Prayag — Alaknanda + Dhauliganga rivers merge. Closest sangam to Badrinath; sage Narada's tapasya site.

Legend

Sage Narada performed Vishnu tapasya here for 60,000 years and received darshan of Vishnu. Pleased, Vishnu declared every Panch Prayag pilgrim must first bathe here.

On Badrinath highway, 245 km from Rishikesh, 12 km from Joshimath. Most Badrinath pilgrims drive past — short halt only.

2021 Chamoli glacial-burst flash flood damaged hydropower project here (NTPC Tapovan-Vishnugad). Sangam itself untouched; pilgrim access restored 2022.
