Significance
One of Arupadai Veedu (6 abodes of Murugan). Legend of "pazham nee" — the fruit of wisdom contest with brother Ganesha — explains why Murugan retreated here in renunciation.
Legend
Sage Narada gave the divine mango fruit to Shiva-Parvati. Ganesha won the contest by circumambulating his parents (his universe). Murugan, who raced around the world, retreated angry to Palani in renunciate form.
