Fasting Rules (Upvas Niyam)

  • One meal — yellow foods (chana dal, besan, turmeric rice, banana)
  • No salt; chana dal khichdi or fruits with milk
  • Break fast at sunset after banana tree puja
  • No washing hair on Thursday (girls especially)
  • Yellow clothes worn
  • Observe 16 consecutive Thursdays then udyapan
