Heart Chakraअनाहत · Anāhata
Location: Center of chest, behind sternum
What This Chakra Governs
Love, compassion, forgiveness, connection, devotion, breath, immune system, heart
Tantric Summary
Anahata means "unstruck" — the sound that exists without two things colliding, the eternal nada. The heart chakra is the great pivot between the three lower (personal) and three higher (transpersonal) chakras. Its element is air — invisible, life-giving, connecting all beings. The symbol is a six-pointed star: two interlaced triangles, one pointing up (ascending consciousness) and one down (descending grace) — the meeting of Shiva and Shakti. Anahata is where the spiritual journey actually begins, because without an opened heart the higher chakras only manifest as intellectual pride or spiritual bypass. Devotional traditions (Bhakti yoga, Sufi, Christian mysticism) all converge on the heart as the gateway. A balanced Anahata produces a person who can love without losing themselves, and who can receive without owing.
