Communication, truth, self-expression, listening, creativity through sound, thyroid, neck

Tantric Summary

Vishuddha means "especially pure." The throat chakra purifies thought into truthful speech. Its element is akasha — space, the most subtle of the five elements, the field in which sound (the first vibration) arises. When this chakra is open, words carry weight; when closed, words feel hollow even when correct. It governs the thyroid (metabolism), the parathyroid, the vocal cords, and the cervical spine. The 16 petals correspond to the 16 vowels of Sanskrit — the foundational sounds. Mantra practice is the direct method for awakening Vishuddha: by repeating sacred syllables, the throat becomes attuned to a frequency higher than personal opinion. A balanced throat chakra produces someone whose silence is as eloquent as their speech.
