Crown Chakraसहस्रार · Sahasrāra
Location: Crown of head (or four finger-widths above)
What This Chakra Governs
Spiritual connection, enlightenment, transcendence, unity consciousness, liberation (moksha)
Tantric Summary
Sahasrara is not a chakra in the same sense as the other six — it is the consummation of all chakras. Where the lower six are within the body, the crown is at or just above the head. The 1000 petals symbolize infinity. Its deity is Param Shiva, pure consciousness without form. When Kundalini Shakti, awakened at Muladhara, rises through Sushumna and pierces the crown, the individual soul merges with the universal — this is the experience the Upanishads call "Aham Brahmasmi" (I am Brahman). The crown chakra cannot be opened by technique alone; it opens by grace when the other six are stabilised. A person established in Sahasrara is described as jivanmukta — liberated while still living. They remain in the body to serve, but their identification is with the Whole.

Yoga Practices
Meditation Focus
Visualize a thousand-petaled luminous lotus at or above crown. There is no bija to chant aloud — only the silent OṂ. Let go of all visualization. Simply rest in awareness.
Associated Food
Fasting; pure water; sattvic foods. At this level, food becomes secondary to the inner nectar (amrita) said to drip from the crown.
Awakening Path
All previous chakras must be functional. Surrender of seeker into the sought. The Kundalini that rose from Muladhara meets Shiva at Sahasrara, and there is union — moksha. This is the final goal of all yogic and tantric practice.
Deepen crown chakra practice
Pair the OṂ (silent) / Visarga bija with a sacred mantra recitation or yoga sutra study.
