Kalashtami Vratकालाष्टमी व्रत
Devoted to Lord Kala Bhairava (Fierce form of Shiva) · Monthly on Krishna Paksha Ashtami of every lunar month
Significance
Kalashtami honors Kala Bhairava, the fierce guardian-form of Lord Shiva who manifested from his rage to humble Lord Brahma pride. Falling on the eighth day of waning moon each month, it is considered supremely powerful for removing fear, enemies, negative karma, and untimely death. Devotees worship Bhairava at midnight believing he commands time (kala) itself and grants protection from all malefic forces, especially Shani and Rahu doshas.

Benefits (Phal)
The vrat eliminates fear of death, ghosts, accidents, and enemies. It nullifies Shani Sade Sati, Rahu-Ketu doshas, and Kaal Sarp afflictions. Observers gain courage, victory in legal battles, protection of property, and removal of black magic effects. Spiritually, Bhairava grants the boon of fearlessness (abhaya), command over time, and accelerated burning of accumulated negative karma — making this vrat especially powerful for tantric and material liberation simultaneously.
Primary Mantra
Vrat Katha (Story Origin)
The Shiva Purana narrates that during a cosmic debate over supremacy, Lord Brahma arrogantly claimed superiority over Shiva. From Shiva enraged third eye emerged a fierce being — Kala Bhairava — who severed Brahma fifth head with his fingernail on Krishna Ashtami. The skull stuck to Bhairava palm (Brahma-hatya dosha), and he wandered until reaching Kashi where the sin dissolved. Kashi became Bhairava eternal abode, and Krishna Ashtami became sacred Kalashtami forever.
