Most powerful Shakti sadhana period. 9 nights celebrate 9 Durga forms — Shailputri, Brahmacharini, Chandraghanta, Kushmanda, Skandamata, Katyayani, Kalaratri, Mahagauri, Siddhidatri. Sharad Navratri (Durga Puja) marks Durga's victory over Mahishasur. Period of intense austerity, mantra-japa, and devi-bhakti. Dussehra/Vijayadashami concludes.

Fasting Rules (Upvas Niyam)
- •Phalahar (fruits, milk, sabudana, kuttu atta) for 9 days
- •No grains (rice, wheat, dal, lentils)
- •No onion, garlic, non-veg, alcohol
- •Sendha namak (rock salt) only
- •Some observe nirjala on Ashtami/Navami
- •No haircut, no nail-cutting during 9 days
Rituals (Puja Vidhi)
- Ghatasthapana on Pratipada — barley sown in clay pot
- Daily puja of corresponding Devi form (color per day)
- Akhand jyot (continuous lamp) burns 9 days
- Recite Durga Saptashati (Chandi Path) daily
- Kanya pujan on Ashtami/Navami — feed 9 girls + 1 boy (Batuk Bhairav)
- Visarjan of ghatasthapana on Dashami

Vrat Katha (Story Origin)
Mahishasura (buffalo demon) gained boon of invincibility to all male warriors. Devas combined energies → Durga emerged with 10 arms + 10 weapons + lion. 9-day battle, slayed Mahishasur on Vijayadashami. Navratri commemorates this victory of dharma over adharma.
