Bajrang Baan
बजरंग बाण
A fierce 40-verse "arrow-prayer" (baan = arrow) to Hanuman, composed by Goswami Tulsidas as a swift weaponized invocation — distinct from his calmer Hanuman Chalisa. Each verse pierces obstacles like an arrow, commanding Hanuman to act immediately on the devotee's behalf. Recited when ordinary chalisa-paath feels insufficient against tantric attack, possession, or grave calamity.
Significance
Considered the most powerful emergency invocation in the Hanuman tradition. Where the Chalisa praises and meditates, the Baan commands and demands. Sadhakas traditionally recite it 7, 11, or 108 times in a single sitting facing south, with red flowers and sindoor offering, to invoke Hanuman's wrathful (raudra) form against malefic forces. Should not be recited casually — meant for moments of true crisis.
When recited: Tuesdays, Saturdays, midnight tantric upasana, during severe distress, after enemy attack or black magic
Benefits
- Immediate dispelling of tantric attacks, black magic, and abhichara prayoga
- Liberation from ghost possession (bhuta-preta-pishacha badha)
- Victory over implacable enemies and legal persecution
- Removal of severe Shani and Mangal afflictions
- Protection during night travel and dangerous undertakings
- Restoration of courage when fear has paralysed the mind
Opening verses
First 8 verses of the Bajrang Baan — the most-recited opening section.
Meaning
With sincere love and faith, offering respectful supplication — for such a devotee, Hanuman accomplishes every auspicious task. Victory to Hanuman, benefactor of saints; hear, O Lord, our earnest petition. Delay not your servant's work — rush at once and grant supreme joy. Just as you leapt across the ocean and expanded your form inside Surasa's mouth, then struck down Lankini who blocked your path so that she departed to the celestial realm — Victory, victory, victory to fathomless Hanuman! For what offence does your devotee suffer? Of worship, japa, austerity, vows, or conduct — your servant knows nothing; rescue him by your grace alone, O arrow-swift son of the wind, before this very moment passes.
