Bhuvaneshwari Chalisa
श्री भुवनेश्वरी चालीसा
Forty-verse hymn to Bhuvaneshwari, the golden Empress whose body is the visible cosmos — the sun is her right eye, the moon her left, the sky her crown, the earth her seat. She holds the noose of attraction and the goad of restraint, and her bija-mantra HRIM is the seed of all space itself. The verses celebrate her as the inner mother who provides shelter, sustenance and a sense of being-at-home in any environment.
Significance
Unlike fierce or ascetic Mahavidyas, Bhuvaneshwari is the gentle empress — Sri Vidya holds that without her permission no devotee can possess land, build a home, or rule a kingdom. Her chalisa is recited before Griha Pravesh, when negotiating real estate, taking over family business leadership, or moving to a new country. Pushkar's ancient Brahma temple installs her as Brahma's consort and her chalisa is the only female-deity text read at the Kartik Purnima fair there.
When recited: Bhuvaneshwari Jayanti (Bhadrapada Shukla Ashtami), every full moon, during Lakshmi puja preliminaries, when seeking a home, fertile land, or sovereignty over a domain (business, household, region)
Benefits
- Grants ownership of land, home and ancestral property
- Establishes sovereignty over a business, household or region
- Removes claustrophobia and panic in enclosed spaces
- Brings expansiveness — open horizons, fresh air, new countries
- Activates the muladhara-to-anahata axis for grounded leadership
- Confers the queenly bearing of one who carries the cosmos within

Meaning
Victory, victory to Bhuvaneshwari, mother of the universe, you are the Amba of the fourteen worlds. Of golden hue, your beauty is unmatched; the noose and goad in your hands shine majestically. You are the sovereign of the bija-mantra HRIM, presiding deity of the space-element, of the very form of Brahman. The sun and moon are your two eyes; the entire firmament is the crown upon your head. Mother who bestows land and dwelling, who grants auspicious results at every Griha Pravesh. Whoever daily sings this Chalisa attains kingdom, wealth, prosperity and a home.
